D-Link is a worldwide leader and award-winning designer,
developer, and true manufacturer of networking, wireless, broadband, digital electronics,
and voice and data communications products. D-Links wide range of products provide
ideal solutions for digital home, Small Office/Home Office (SOHO), Small-to-Medium
Business (SMB), Workgroup, and Enterprise environments.
Established in 1986, D-Link is completely committed to technology excellence and quality
production. Throughout the years, D-Link has strengthened its position as one of the
industry's leaders in data networking, wireless, broadband, and communication solutions.
These successes, in addition to careful fiscal management, have allowed D-Link to deliver
solid revenue and profit growth year after year resulting in a non-stop expansion pattern
since its inception. Worldwide revenue reached US$1.2 billion in 2005.
Today, D-Link's products are distributed and used worldwide. Geographically, it has
penetrated all major markets, using a diverse distribution channel structure combined with
an advanced product mix and localized tailor-made product strategies.D-Link employs over
1,800 people worldwide and has R&D centers in Taiwan, the USA, China, and India;; with
some 1,000,000 sq. feet of manufacturing facilities in Taiwan, China, and India; 105
offices worldwide in 55 countries.
With the rapid growth and
variation of information technologies, most business activities today rely heavily on
network communications. In the current highly competitive business environment,
enterprises face not only harsh business challenges, but also various threats to their
networks. These threats include hacker attacks and the spread of computer viruses of many
sorts.
D-Link began developing security solutions in 2001 to provide for customer network
security requirements and successfully launched its first security product V the
DFL-300, in July 2002. The variety and sophistication of security product offerings and
their performance has increased significantly since the launch of the DFL-300. More than
ten different device-based firewalls and internet security gateways (ISGs) have been
developed for both the SOHO and Enterprise market segments. Collectively called the
NetDefend product series, these security products give additional depth to D-Links
already extensive product offerings.
Traditional network security technologies
usually respond to threats posed by hackers and viruses by using a single appliance to
check for abnormal packets passing through the network and to deny connections which might
violate access rules in accordance with each network administrators predefined
configurations. D-Links NetDefend design goes well beyond this simplistic approach to
provide advanced, robust security features.
The NetDefend series is a powerful security solution that features integrated firewall,
load sharing, fault-tolerance, server load balancing, ZoneDefense™, content
filtering, user authentication, IM/P2P blocking, denial of service (DoS) defense, and
virtual private network (VPN) capabilities.
The sophisticated security features of NetDefends next generation of firewalls are also
easy to implement using a new GUI designed using object-oriented methods. NetDefends
GUI helps make these professional level firewalls user friendly, and thus superior not
only in price and performance but also easy to deploy and use in a wide variety of
organizations. NetDefend firewalls have a high port density to support Gigabit interfaces,
multiple WAN ports, and WAN/DMZ/LAN configurable ports.
D-Link has pioneered a proactive security
architecture called ZoneDefense™, which is used in our next generation firewalls. By
interacting with D-Links xStack switch products, ZoneDefense can effectively block any
malicious host immediately upon detection. A ZoneDefense response is triggered when any
abnormal network activity on the part of a user computer is detected. Once ZoneDefense has
been activated, the infected computer can be rapidly excised from the network without
disrupting other users network connections. A countermeasure of this sort is extremely
useful for large enterprises because it ensures that they will be able to prevent a virus
outbreak from infecting an entire subnet or other subnets, thus minimizing damage caused
by attacks that might otherwise paralyze critical servers and systems.
When protecting against network targeted virus attacks, traditional firewalls or IDS
devices only provide one level of defense as they are not able to communicate with each
other regarding the nature and severity of the problem. However, with the aid of
ZoneDefense technology network administrators simply need to define their list of
designated services or IDS patterns for total network security.
